President of the Government says housing support is the result of solidarity among the Azorean people

The President of the Government defended today that the housing support allocated by the Government also come with a responsibility for beneficiaries since it is the result of the solidarity among all Azoreans, who have contributed to the development of these social support policies with the taxes they pay.

Vasco Cordeiro spoke at signing ceremony of sublease contracts of 17 apartments, with purchase option, in the Rotunda da Ribeira Seca Undertaking. The application privileged families with children and young couples; most of whom are from the municipality of Ribeira Grande.

"These contracts come with a responsibility towards the Regional Government. By signing this contract, beneficiaries also take responsibility towards all Azoreans, because we have been able to support housing programmes with their money," said the President of the Government.

Vasco Cordeiro stressed that this governmental support is the base principle of housing policies. In turn, beneficiaries should assume the "responsibility of taking care of their houses and help other Azoreans within their reach so that we, as a People, can move forward."

"It is important to bear in mind the spirit of solidarity among Azoreans, who have paid their taxes and, therefore, contributed to the implementation of governmental policies for housing support in the Azores," said the President of the Government.

In this context, Vasco Cordeiro pointed out that since 2010 the "Families with Future" programme has supported over two thousand Az
orean families in the supported lease and lease incentive schemes.

With regard to the renewal of degraded housing, the Government supported 500 families in 2013, which corresponded to an investment over three million Euros," the President of the Government announced, adding that a total 1,300 Azores families were covered under the agreements signed with local authorities.

"These efforts are not limited to figures, but to the Azoreans who wish to build their lives and their future, thus being supported by the Government," said Vasco Cordeiro.
