President of the Government says references made by President of the Republic to the Azores and the Autonomy are "positive"
The President of the Government mentioned the positive references made to the Azores and the Autonomy at the inauguration speech of the new President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, held today at the National Assembly.
"I emphasise the reference that was made to the Regional Autonomy and, in particular, to the Azores. I believe that these references made at the beginning of a term in a speech as important as the inauguration speech are positive, but we are still at the beginning of the term," said Vasco Cordeiro.
After attending the solemn session held at the Parliament, the President of the Government said there will be many occasions and circumstances to "verify and see the results of the strategies that the new President of the Republic wants to implement, particularly with regard to what is important to Regional Autonomies insofar as they are already in their 40th year since their constitutional establishment."
"From this standpoint, it is time to re-evaluate and strengthen the Autonomy, about which the President will have to something to say regarding this new approach insofar as there are powers and figures that are directly related to the President of the Republic." On coming days, he will request an audience for exchange of greetings with Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
As for the inauguration speech of the new President of the Republic, Vasco Cordeiro stressed, on the other hand, the matters related to the "need to heal wounds after the years of sacrifice the country lived, acknowledging the particular harmful effect to the Portuguese society."
