The President of the Government welcomed in Ponta Delgada the Chief of Staff of the Army, General José Nunes da Fonseca, to whom he expressed his recognition for the support provided by this Armed Forces branch to the Azorean population, particularly during natural catastrophes.
"The role played by the Armed Forces, including the Army, in the Azores is not just emphasised by the Regional Government, it is felt by the Azoreans in times of anguish when he presence of such aid is even more valuable." This is the case of disasters that have affected the Region," said Vasco Cordeiro.
Speaking to journalists, the President of the Government also stated that today's meeting demonstrated the willingness to strengthen cooperation mechanisms in this area.
"There is work that has already been done, that is being done and that will certainly be reinforced in the scope of Civil Protection, namely in terms of joint drills," recalled Vasco Cordeiro. On the occasion, he expressed the Regional Government's full availability to strengthen cooperation with the Armed Forces.
