The President of the Government received today Brigadier General Eduardo Faria, who recently took up the position of Commander of the Azores Air Zone, at an audience held today in Ponta Delgada.
At the end of the meeting, Vasco Cordeiro stressed that Brigadier General Eduardo Faria, in addition to his competence and leadership skills, shows a "deep understanding of what the Azorean reality is" since has he exercised several duties in the Region over the years.
Speaking to journalists, the President of the Government mentioned the Cooperation Protocol signed in July with the National Government to certify Lajes Air Base for permanent uses by civil aircraft. According to him, the work is being developed so that this airport infrastructure may become a factor of development for Terceira and the Region in terms of operating conditions and attractiveness.
"It is known that the Region signed a protocol with the National Government that addresses this issue and, currently, we are continuing this work in order to solve this situation as soon as possible," said Vasco Cordeiro.
