The President of the Government received today the Minister of the Sea of the People's Republic of China at a meeting held in Ponta Delgada that further developed the contacts that have been established in matters related to the sea over the last years.
"Several contacts have been developed between the Azores and institutions linked to the study and research of the oceans and today they were greatly enhanced with the Minister's visit to the Azores as well as with the opportunity to exchange views. This allowed us to restate the interest and opportunity to strengthen this connection," said Vasco Cordeiro.
Speaking after the meeting with Wang Hong, the President of the Government stressed that this visit to the Azores also provided a "better knowledge on the aspects that the Azores have to offer, especially in the maritime area, in order to not only reinforce the position of our country but also the development and progress conditions of the Region."
"We, either individually, or, in partnership with other entities, including other countries, are able to transform the Sea into a driving force in the development and progress of our Region," said the government official.
Vasco Cordeiro stressed that this process is "not developed overnight" since it is in permanent construction. Nevertheless, he assured the Regional Government's commitment in its development.
"This meeting was important and very productive. It provided the opportunity to build the foundations for a good understanding that has been worked on and outlined over the past few years," said Vasco Cordeiro.
