The President of the Government, Vasco Cordeiro welcomed today a delegation of Lions Club, a voluntary service organisation of humanitarian nature, which is in the Azores to take part in the centennial celebrations of Lions International in the Region.
The Delegation is composed of 14 members who attended the audience to exchange compliments held at Santana Palace. It was led by the Governor of District 115 - South Centre, Raúl Amado, the Governor of District 115 - North Centre, Rosário Soares, and the Chairman of the Azores Region of Lions Clubs International, José Andrade. On the occasion, Vasco Cordeiro stressed the importance of the work carried out by this worldwide organisation in supporting the most disadvantaged.
Lions Clubs International is the largest non-governmental organisation acknowledged by the United Nations. Currently, it comprises 46 thousand clubs spread throughout two-hundred countries.
