Public investments contribute to the construction of the Region's future, says Vasco Cordeiro
The President of the Government stated today in Santa Cruz that the public investment made on the island of Flores, like those made throughout the archipelago, contribute to the construction of this island's future.
"We carry out these investments not only because they fulfil an obligation of a public entity, but also because they represent the belief that is worth making them on Flores, for those who are here and for what they will make of their future," said Vasco Cordeiro.
The President of the Government spoke at the presentation of the rehabilitation project of the surrounding area of the south end of Flores Aerodrome, an investment of 300 thousand Euros. Developed in partnership with the Santa Cruz Town Hall, the project will create a green and leisure space of about nine thousand square metres.
According to the President of the Government, these public investments made on all the islands demonstrate that the Government wants to be present, within the limits of its powers and resources, to help building the future in partnership with public and private entities.
In this context, Vasco Cordeiro pointed out the example of the road network of Flores. These investments are in different stages of development and represent a commitment that has been made in a challenging context, when, three years ago, national authorities considered that this type of intervention should not be supported by EU funds.
In this regard, the President of the Government stressed the contract work for the rehabilitation and upgrading of a section of the Regional Road between Ferros Velhos and Ponta Delgada. Moreover, he also mentioned the ongoing tender to choose the company that will carry out the work in various sections, such as the Road Branch of Fajãzinha, the Road Branch of Mosteiro, the south end of the aerodrome strip and the entrance to the village of Lajes. These interventions represent a global investment of two million Euros.
With regard to the work publicly presented today, Vasco Cordeiro stressed that it aims to create the conditions to not only transform public spaces into enjoyable areas for local inhabitants, but also to improve these spaces so that they become an attraction factor for those visiting the island of Flores. This will effectively contribute to the strengthening of territorial cohesion of the archipelago.
