Public tender for upgrading of Furnas-Povoação road launched at the beginning of next year, announces Vasco Cordeiro
The President of the Regional Government announced today the launch, at the beginning of next year, of the public tender for the upgrading of the road between Furnas and Povoação, a “structuring" investment for accessibility in this municipality of S. Miguel Island.
“The environmental impact study and the preliminary study have already been completed. We expect that the implementation project will be concluded by the end of this year so that we can launch the public tender for this work in first months of next year," said Vasco Cordeiro.
The President of the Government spoke at the opening of the floating footbridges at Povoação Port, an investment of around 260 thousand Euros in the area of recreational boating that was carried out under the responsibility of the Town Council. On the occasion, he stated that this work in the road that connects Furnas to the town of Povoação “has been duly analysed, considered and is of paramount importance for the increasing dynamics of this municipality.”
“One of the structural investments for this municipality concerns accessibility, namely the intervention on the Furnas-Povoação road,” Vasco Cordeiro said, noting that “practical steps” have been jointly taken in this process with contribution of the Town Council.
In his speech, the President of the Azorean Government stressed that the nautical infrastructures opened today have a meaning that goes beyond the investment itself. According to him, they are an example of a "municipality that has move forward in a fundamental area for collective development,” that is, the improvement of infrastructures serving tourism, one of the main driving forces of the regional economy.
“We offer our congratulations to Povoação Town Council and its Mayor, Pedro Melo, for this particular investment but also for what it represents in terms of the responsibility and opportunity to contribute to the improvement of infrastructures serving the development of each of our communities,” stated the government official.
In this context, Vasco Cordeiro pointed out examples regarding the recovery of infrastructures linked to pedestrian trails as areas of intervention of the strategy that can be pursued by local authorities.
“The contribution to this collective effort of providing our communities with the necessary conditions for wealth generation and employment creation largely depends on the willingness and strategic sense of each of our municipalities,” said the government official.
At the opening of this investment, supported by the Regional Government in terms of technical networks, the President of the Government also considered that this work is “a good example” of a partnership between both two entities.
"With this intervention, the Town Council raises the Povoação Port, a work carried out by the Government, to prominence by enhancing its use in terms of nautical activities," noted Vasco Cordeiro.
