The Government of the Azores welcomes the decision of the Council of Ministers approving the launch of the public tender for the repair works on NATO POL Jetty in Ponta Delgada, with an estimated budget of 5.4 million Euros, which will re-establish the safety and operation of this infrastructure.
The decision taken Thursday embodies a commitment that had been recently confirmed between the Minister of National Defence and the Regional Secretary for Transport and Public Works at a meeting held in early March.
In addition to this work, the Port Authorities plan to invest 41 million Euros in improving the safety and operating conditions of Ponta Delgada commercial port.
Currently, there are ongoing works to reinforce the breakwater, estimated at nine million Euros, with the aim of reinforcing the protection capacity of the outer breakwater that was affected by the storms of December 2015 and January 2016.
The second phase of the intervention intends to improve the operating conditions of the port. With an estimated budget of 32 million Euros, it comprises the reprofiling of Pier -10, the repaving of the jetty, the improvement of the technical networks and the expansion of the container park.
