TERINOV starts operating this year to attract qualified jobs, announces Vasco Cordeiro
The President of the Government visited today the construction works of Terceira Island Science and Technology Park - TERINOV, an investment over nine million Euros that will enter into operation this year. It is primarily intended to contribute to the creation of qualified jobs in the Region.
"The purpose of this and other similar investments promoted by Government in the Region is to ensure that the economic recovery process we have seen in recent times - even today - is increasingly sustainable and, above all, that is based on areas that create qualified jobs," said Vasco Cordeiro.
Speaking to journalists after visiting the future facilities, the President of the Government announced that the public tender for the acquisition of equipment should be launched next month. It is estimated that TERINOV should be properly completed and equipped by the end of the first half or in the beginning of the second half of 2018.
"This Science and Technology Park is directed towards specific and complementary areas with other infrastructures that already exist in the Region. This is the case of areas related to biotechnology, agri-food industry, renewable energy, environment and creative industries, among others, which will strengthen the Region's potential to attract this type of industry," said Vasco Cordeiro.
Also in the first half of 2018, there is a planned tender for the allocation of spaces to companies at TERINOV, the President of the Government said, noting that there are already more than two dozen companies that have shown interest in the park.
With the rehabilitation of an area of over 5,000 m2, TERINOV will include a business incubation area, coworking spaces, areas for cultural and creative industries as well as research and development laboratories for the agri-food industry and biotechnology, and a laboratory for innovation in dairy products.
Located in the old facilities of the University of the Azores in Angra do Heroísmo, it also includes administrative spaces, such as meeting rooms and a multipurpose room and common spaces such as a cafeteria and a lounge.
In the surrounding area, there will be an area for the installation of greenhouses, a car park and an allotment area for the future construction buildings.
