Topo Port with conditions to serve fisheries and tourism on São Jorge, says Vasco Cordeiro
The President of the Government visited today the upgrading works of Topo Port, an investment of about 6.5 million Euros that will begin to serve this year fisheries and tourism, thereby strengthening the conditions for the economic development of this area on São Jorge.
"This investment corresponds, above all, to a strategic investment in the development of economic activities in this area of São Jorge." It will be provided with conditions to serve the fisheries sector, but also the activities carried out by maritime-tourism companies, said Vasco Cordeiro on the second day of the Regional Government's visit to São Jorge.
Speaking to journalists, the President of the Government also stated that the work, which should be concluded at the end of this year, "corresponds to a long-awaited aspiration for this part of the island." In fact, it represents the fulfilment of a commitment made by the Government to the local population.
With the improvement in safety and operating conditions, the Topo Port will be equipped with a 60-metre long jetty and a 40-metre long mooring area. The intervention will also include the repaving of the existing wharf as well as the construction of a ramp and an embankment with an area of about 1,200 square metres.
