The President of the Government chairs the Political Commission of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions of Europe (CPMR), an organisation that includes 150 regions from 28 Member States, encompassing nearly 200 million European citizens.
The meeting the political bureau of CPMR, which includes one representative per State, features panels on cohesion policy, the specific situation of islands in terms of accessibility, maritime affairs, energy and climate, among others.
MEPs Maria Spyraki and Lambert Van Nistelrooij will also participate in this meeting to take place on the Greek island of Crete.
Vasco Cordeiro was elected President of CPMR in September 2014. Its mission is to defend the interests of its members with national and European institutions by promoting economic, social and territorial cohesion, strengthening the action of regional authorities in Europe and reinforcing peripheral and maritime dimension of Europe.
In this context, CPRM has carried out an extensive effort in terms of the development of policies and influence with Community institutions, particularly with regard to the Cohesion Policy, the Integrated Maritime Policy, the Transport Policy and Macro-Regional Strategies.
