Vasco Cordeiro delivers Government Programme proposal to the President of the Legislative Assembly
The President of the Government delivered today the Government Programme proposal to the President of the Legislative Assembly in Horta. It contains the strategic guidelines of the Government's action for various areas over the next four years.
Speaking to journalists after handing over the document to Ana Luís, Vasco Cordeiro added that the Programme of the XII Government of the Azores corresponds, almost entirely, to the programme chosen by the Azorean people during the regional legislative elections of October 16.
"It is a programme that aims to respond to challenges the Region has to face in the four years with concrete measures and solutions," said the President of the Government, who delivered the document together with the Regional Assistant Secretary for the Presidency for Parliamentary Affairs, Berto Messias.
The Government Programme will be under discussion at the plenary session next week. According to Vasco Cordeiro, it aims to address the various challenges in the areas of economy and employability of the Azorean citizens, but also in terms of social policies, focusing on the fight against poverty and social exclusion.
In regard to Education, the plan presents measures to continue the work developed towards the promotion of school success, which already shows "positive signs; however, it is necessary to consolidate them" in coming years, added Vasco Cordeiro.
As for Agriculture and Fisheries, the measures and policies aim to strengthen the competitiveness of these sectors in the regional economy, contributing to economic development, employment creation and wealth generation in the Region.
