The President of the Government visited in Vila do Porto the ongoing works in fire station of Santa Maria Fire Brigade, an investment over 700 thousand Euros that falls within a series of investments in similar infrastructures throughout the archipelago.
"These remodelling and expansion works represent a commitment that has been made and is being fulfilled," said Vasco Cordeiro, who spoke to journalists in the beginning of the Government's statutory visit to the island of Santa Maria.
In addition to this intervention on Santa Maria, the rehabilitation works in the Santa Cruz das Flores fire station are already underway, which also amount to about 700 thousand Euros, said the President of the Government.
Vasco Cordeiro added that the ongoing public tenders for the expansion of Lajes do Pico fire station, an investment of about 500 thousand Euros, and the construction of the new fire station in Povoação on São Miguel, an estimated investment of about of 2.5 million Euros.
As for Horta fire station, which also involves an investment of about 2.5 million Euros, "the respective tender is expected to be launched soon," said Vasco Cordeiro.
According to the President of the Government, the renovation and expansion of the facilities of the Humanitarian Association of Voluntary Firemen of Santa Maria will allow, among other improvements, the creation of a covered area for car parking and equipment to emerge in the area between the two buildings existing.
Moreover, the redevelopment of pre-existing buildings ensures the creation of barracks for both sexes as well as social spaces, such as the case of the cafeteria.
