The President of the Government expressed his deep sorrow over the death of Maria Barroso, a personality who "has always fought for noble causes" and who has always evidenced her great "civic and personal qualities" in the various duties she performed.

"It was with deep sorrow that I received the news of the death of Maria Barroso," a "great figure of our country who has always fought for noble causes and was an anti-fascist fighter," said Vasco Cordeiro.

Speaking to journalists, the President of the Government stressed that Maria Barroso was a "woman who dedicated herself to the cause of culture, namely theatre, and social causes." Vasco Cordeiro also recalled the duties she carried out as leader of the Portuguese Red Cross and the Foundation for Human Rights and Against Violence - Pro Dignitate.

"From this perspective, she is worthy of the recognition and tribute of all and this is what I am doing at this time on my behalf and on behalf of the Government of the Azores.

I praise her civic and personal qualities that were evidenced in the various duties she performed," said Vasco Cordeiro.
