Vasco Cordeiro highlights commitment of many Azoreans who contribute to the sports success of the Region
The President of the Government highlighted the work and the commitment of many Azoreans engaged in associations throughout the region who, in partnership with public entities, embody the development of sport in the Azores.
"The commitment of public authorities in this field will only work with the commitment, motivation and the dedication of private entities. I believe that, so far, this has been achieved and there is every reason that this will continue to happen in the Azores," said Vasco Cordeiro.
Speaking at the opening of the new Sports and Social Hall of Pauleta Foundation, the President of the Government added that public policies have resulted in the significant development of sport in the Region, which is evidenced by the doubling in the number of sports facilities made available to the Azorean population, through a free use scheme.
"There are many Azoreans on all our islands, such as the case of Pedro Pauleta, who often, anonymously, give their time, their work and their dedication so that these measures may benefit the Azores," stressed Vasco Cordeiro.
According to the President of the Government, the results of this partnership established between public and private entities are not irrelevant, pointing out the example of the more than 23,000 athletes belonging to regional sports clubs in nearly 40 sports.
Overall, the training levels - from 8 to 18 years - represent over 75 percent of the federal athletes throughout the region, which has more than 250 sports clubs, said Vasco Cordeiro.
On the occasion, the President of the Government pointed out the social relevance of Pauleta Foundation, which demonstrates the commitment of Pedro Pauleta to the development of his land.
