Vasco Cordeiro highlights importance of recovering cultural and natural heritage for the Azorean people
The President of the Government highlighted on the island of Corvo the importance of investing in the recovery of the natural and cultural heritage of all islands with the aim of making it available to an ever growing number of Azoreans.
On the second of the statutory visit to the island of Corvo, the President of the Government spoke at the presentation of the project for the Eiras do Maranhão Viewpoint, a winning proposal of the Participatory Budget of the Azores, and the redevelopment project for the Caldeirão Viewpoint.
Representing an overall investment of 120 thousand Euros, “these two interventions, like hundreds of others taking place on all islands, are a way of preserving our spaces and our heritage, ensuring better conditions to Corvo islanders so that they may enjoy their cultural and environmental heritage,” stressed Vasco Cordeiro.
The President of the Government also highlighted the fact that the intervention to be carried out in Eiras do Maranhão follows a proposal submitted to the 2018 Participatory Budget in the area of Tourism, giving practical expression to the democratic and direct participation of citizens.
Vasco Cordeiro also stressed the availability and openness of the owners of the spaces under intervention to “be part” of this process of valuing Corvo's heritage and history in partnership with the Regional Government.
In the case of Eiras do Maranhão View, the project is intended to recover this space for tourist, social and cultural use, contributing to documented observation of the town.
As for the redevelopment of Caldeirão Viewpoint, a project developed by the Regional Secretariat for Transport and Public Works, the intervention will include the use of natural materials and endogenous elements, such as wood and permeable pavements.
