Vasco Cordeiro highlights importance of schools in shaping the future of the Azores
The President of the Government stressed in Ponta Delgada the important role that regional schools play in shaping the future of the Azores, thus contributing to a better society.
"This aspect is fundamental insofar as it allows us to have an idea as accurate as possible about the truly essential importance of education and how it can help to become a better people, a better society and a better Region in the future," said Vasco Cordeiro.
The President of the Government spoke at the opening of the new premises of "A Passarada," a private school that comprises seven preschool and elementary school classes. The President of the Government added that the work developed by this school establishment is not just limited to help students achieving success; it also "helps building the future of the Region, just as it happens in all schools throughout the Region, either they be they public or private."
"While we have followed an encouraging path in recent years, from the standpoint of education indicators, there is still much to be done. As for these goals, institutions such "A Passarada" are one of the pillars that effectively contribute to their achievement in the future. Hence, we will not only be the best qualified in terms of professional skills, but above we will be better qualified to be fully active, demanding, participating, critical and enlightened citizens," said the President of the Government.
"If this is achieved for our society, I have no doubt that this will have an effect that will spread to every other sector of our Region and of our People," said Vasco Cordeiro.
In his speech, the President of the Government also left a word of public recognition for the work developed by "A Passarada" in almost 60 years of existence, not only in the relations with its students but also in "what was possible to achieve in the Azorean society" regarding the improvement of skills and education.
