Vasco Cordeiro highlights investments to provide firefighters with the necessary resources to carry out their mission
The President of the Government highlighted on Flores Island the commitment to provide Azorean fire corporations with the resources necessary to carry out their mission, pointing out the investment of nearly seven million Euros in the redevelopment and construction of new fire stations.
"The Government of the Azores has strongly invested in the improvement of conditions so that all fire corporations in the archipelago may assist the population in dire situations, thus fulfilling their role," said Vasco Cordeiro.
After visiting the improvement and expansion works of Santa Cruz das Flores fire station under the Government's statutory visit to that island, the President of the Government announced that public tenders will be launched for the construction of a new fire station in Povoação, S. Miguel Island, and in Horta, Faial Island.
In addition to the expansion works of Vila do Porto fire station on Santa Maria, recently opened, there are other works underway to expand the facilities of Lajes fire corporation. They add up to the recent investment in the communications network of the Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service and to the support to the renovation of fleet and equipment.
"These investments eventually correspond and respond to what is most important in this area of our collective experience" in terms of Civil Protection, said Vasco Cordeiro.
With a budget of 700 thousand Euros, the expansion work of Santa Cruz das Flores fire station provides, among other components, spaces designed to house operational equipment and training of human resources as well as the creation of women's and men's dormitories.
