Vasco Cordeiro highlights political option to support Housing in challenging term
The President of the Government stressed today the Regional Government's political option to allocate substantial financial resources to the area of housing support, an effort carried out during a legislative period marked by many challenges and different priority areas.
"The fact that we are a Region that supports the Azoreans in this basic right to adequate housing should make us proud," said Vasco Cordeiro. The government official spoke at the ceremony for the authorisation of 15 housing rehabilitation procedures on Graciosa, a public investment of about 300 thousand Euros.
In the current term, the volume of global investment in housing reached 60 million Euros, supporting more than 4,500 Azorean families since late 2012.
For 2016, the area of Housing and Urban Renewal has an overall budget of 22 million Euros.
"This source of pride has nothing to do with the figures by themselves, but because it embodies the value of solidarity, which cannot be absent in our present context," said Vasco Cordeiro.
On the second day of the statuary visit to Graciosa, the President of the Government stressed that, in the specific case of this island, there has a long tradition of supporting the recovery of degraded housing.
"In addition to the new 15 procedures, the agreement signed with Santa Cruz Town Hal also comprised another 71 procedures that were authorised during this legislative period as well as other support measures. Overall, this represents a public investment of two million Euros in housing recovery," announced the President of the Government.
During the day, Vasco Cordeiro also visited the rehabilitation works of the regional road no.1-2 in the section between Limeira and Porto Afonso, covering a total extension of 10 kilometres. This one million-Euro investment falls under the Regional Government's commitment to improve the road network of Graciosa.
