Vasco Cordeiro marks Europe Day with online debate on the future of regions post COVID-19
This Saturday, the President of the Government will mark Europe Day with his participation, as First Vice-President of the Committee of the Regions, in a forum, held by video conference, which will discuss the European Union's response to the situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in European regions.
This forum promoted by the Committee of the Regions, which will be divided into three discussion sessions, will be attended by Elisa Ferreira, European Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, and Dubravka Šuica, Vice-President of the European Commission designate for Democracy and Demography under the presidency of Ursula von der Leyen.
Europe Day is annually celebrated on May 9, a date that marks the anniversary of the historic "Schuman Declaration," considered as the genesis of the European Union's creation process.
Vasco Cordeiro will participate in the debates on the future of the Cohesion Policy and the Community Budget for the 2021-2027 period, between 8 am and 9 am (Azores time), and on Democracy in the European Union, between 10 am and 11 am ( Azores time), which will address the prospects of recovery from the European crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In February, the President of the Government was elected First Vice-President of the Committee of the Regions by acclamation under an agreement between all political groups stipulating that Vasco Cordeiro will assume the presidency of this European body within two and a half years.
