The President of the Government of the Azores meets Thursday in Brussels with the European Commissioners for EU Budget, Günther Oettinger, and for Regional Policy, Corina Creţu.
The meeting of Vasco Cordeiro, who presides over the Conference of Peripheral and Maritime Regions of Europe (CPMR), with the two European Commissioners also includes the government officials of the regions and interregional bodies that have signed the Cohesion Alliance Declaration towards a strong and effective Cohesion Policy in the post-2020 Community budget.
The meeting with Günther Oettinger and Corina Creţu, scheduled for Thursday morning, is part of a round of contacts that Vasco Cordeiro has established in Brussels with senior politicians from European institutions to raise the awareness of the European Union for the relevance of maintaining the main Community investment tool in the Regions in the next multiannual financing framework.
At the end of 2017, Vasco Cordeiro met with the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, and, in January this year, he held meetings with the European Commission's chief negotiator for Brexit, Michel Barnier, the first Vice-President of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans, and the President of the Committee of the Regions, Karl-Heinz Lambert.
In November 2016, Vasco Cordeiro was reelected for a second term as President of CPMR, an interregional cooperation body that encompasses 160 regions from 28 European states, congregating 200 million citizens.
