The President of the Government, Vasco Cordeiro, met today with several members of his Government. The meeting was aimed at the coordination and preparation of measures that are being implemented in the Region in view of the forecasts for the archipelago, which is expected to be affected by Hurricane Lorenzo.
Given the possibility of this hurricane passing through the Azores next Wednesday, proper steps are being taken in the areas of public works, transport, social solidarity, housing, health and education, among other sectors, in addition to the actions that are being carried out by the Azores Region Civil Protection and Fire Service.
This Sunday, Vasco Cordeiro was in contact via telephone with Prime Minister António Costa, who, besides providing the necessary support, learned about the measures already taken and those to be implemented in coming days in view of the weather forecasts for the Region.
On Monday morning, a group of 25 firefighters from several fire corporations of São Miguel will be deployed to the islands of Flores, Pico and Graciosa to reinforce the local fire brigades.
Today's meeting took place at Santana Palace in Ponta Delgada and was attended by the following members of the Government: the Regional Secretary for Health, who is also responsible for the Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service, Teresa Machado Luciano, the Regional Secretary for Transport and Public Works, Ana Cunha, the Regional Secretary for Energy, Environment and Tourism, Marta Guerreiro, and the Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Forestry, João Ponte.
