Vasco Cordeiro offers Regional Civil Protection assistance to the Government of Madeira
The President of the Regional Government of the Azores offered today the assistance of the Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service to the Government of Madeira to help fighting the fires that are still affecting this Autonomous Region.
"I am writing to you in these hours of anguish for the people of Madeira to convey you, on my behalf and on behalf of the Government of the Azores, all our solidarity and readiness to provide the assistance deemed necessary or appropriate," says Vasco Cordeiro in the message sent to Miguel Albuquerque.
In this message, the President of the Government also took the opportunity to offer the assistance of the Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service in the duty of solidarity and in compliance with the Cooperation Protocol signed between both Governments on February 1, during Miguel Albuquerque's visit to the Azores.
At the end of this visit, both Governments signed several cooperation protocols; one of which comprises the area of Civil Protection. It provides that "in the event of serious accidents or disasters, an Autonomous Region may request assistance to the other in conjunction with the competent authorities."
