The President of the Government, Vasco Cordeiro, participates in the meeting of the Permanent Bilateral Commission between Portugal and the United States in Washington on May 6. It will address, among other subjects, the resizing process of US forces at Lajes Air Base.
Vasco Cordeiro departs today from Ponta Delgada to Washington and will participate for the fourth time in a meeting of the Permanent Bilateral Commission.
The last meeting of this body was held in Angra do Heroísmo December 2015, following the invitation made by the President of the Government.
The meeting to be held Friday will be the 35th of the Permanent Bilateral Commission. This body was established by the Agreement on Cooperation and Defence between Portugal and the USA in 1995 and is in charge of promoting the implementation of this agreement and cooperation between both countries.
