The President of the Government, Vasco Cordeiro, stressed the importance of the work developed by the Saint Elizabeth Home in the city of Winnipeg, Canada, mentioning that the support provided by this institution to the Azorean community is also a way of uniting this community in the Diaspora.

Vasco Cordeiro visited this home last Wednesday in the context of his visit to Canada to meet with the Azorean communities residing in that country. During the visit, the President of the Government stated that the Regional Government is following attentively the work carried out by this institution and remains interested in continuing with the existing partnership.

The Saint Elizabeth Home, also known as Portuguese Non Profit Housing Project, is installed in an apartment building in the city of Winnipeg that currently houses thirty people. Vasco Cordeiro had the opportunity to contact with the beneficiaries of the programme who are of Azorean origin.

While visiting Winnipeg, the President of the Government also took part in a meeting with three Azorean and Luso-canadian entrepreneurs. The event was promoted by the Society for the Business Development of the Azores (SDEA) with the purpose of disseminating investment opportunities in the archipelago.
 
The meeting addressed the areas considered strategic by the Regional Government, with special emphasis on agriculture and animal husbandry, tourism and marine economy. It also featured the presentation of incentive schemes created by the Regional Government to support private investment.
