The President of the Government welcomed today the Santa Clara Sports Club at Santana Palace. On the occasion, he conveyed to the board, technical staff and players the "pride of the Azores" in the promotion of a regional team to the major football league in Portugal.
"Like other achievements in several collective and individual sports in the Azores, the promotion of Santa Clara to the Premier League is a source of pride for the Azores and for the Regional Government," said Vasco Cordeiro.
After thanking the President of the club, Rui Cordeiro, for his desire to hold this meeting, the President of the Government praised the work of all those who have contributed to the promotion of Santa Clara to the Portuguese Premier League.
"I commend the work of all those - leaders, technical staff and players - who contributed to this promotion, as I also extend this greeting to all those who have brought the name of the Azores further in various regional sports," stressed Vasco Cordeiro.
After revealing that the needs of São Miguel Stadium are already identified in terms of the Premier League regulatory requirements, the President of the Government announced the holding of a working meeting to evaluate the interventions deemed necessary within the Region's budget possibilities.
"This is the moment, above all, to congratulate all those who have contributed to this achievement and, of course, to express the Regional Government's availability to discuss the issues that are ahead of us," stated Vasco Cordeiro.
Following Sunday's victory at São Miguel Stadium, 3-0 against Real de Massamá club, Santa Clara has secured its return to the Portuguese Premier League.
