Azores Milk is product of exceptional quality that deserves to be increasingly valued, says Regional Director for Rural Development
The Regional Director for Rural Development, Valter Braga, stressed today that the Azores milk is an emblematic product of exceptional quality that deserve to be increasingly valued as regards the price paid to producers and dissemination among consumers.
"There is no doubt that the Azores milk is a product of exceptional quality, being not only the result of animal welfare, public health and food safety policies but also of good management of animals that graze in the open 365 days a year," said Valter Braga. He spoke on the sidelines of a debate on milk, healthy eating and sustainability at the "Milk Talk" event, which took place today in Oeiras.
Valter Braga considered that this potential has to be increasingly fostered, through media awareness, the search for new markets and innovation in order to "meet what consumers are looking for today."
"The BEL pilot project for the production of organic milk in the Azores is, from the Regional Government's standpoint, a very positive aspect with potential to leverage the sector's revenue," said the Regional Director.
Valter Braga pointed out that the provision of support under PRORURAL + for this purpose, urging farmers to invest in the modernisation of farms and industries to carry out promotional campaigns for Azorean dairy products.
