Regional Government committed to mitigating damage to farmers affected by Hurricane Lorenzo
The Regional Director for Rural Development guaranteed on Flores Island that the Regional Government will always be with farmers to help mitigating the damage caused by the passage of Hurricane Lorenzo.
"Given the exceptional nature of the situation, which will have a direct impact on farmers' income, the Regional Government will help farmers minimising the damage caused by Hurricane Lorenzo," said Valter Braga, who visited Monday several farms on the island of Flores.
Valter Braga stated that technicians from the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Forestry are still on the ground surveying the damage caused to farms on various islands, so it is difficult at this stage to make estimates of losses.
The Regional Director praised the tremendous resilience of Azorean farmers, noting that efforts are already being undertaken to address the needs for concentrate fibre and feed for cattle.
