The Regional Director for Agriculture expressed today his satisfaction with the "positive evolution of artificial insemination" of cattle that is taking place on the island of Corvo, where farmers, with the Government's support, acquired Charolais and Simmental Fleckvie breeding animals.
 
"In 2016, the number of insemination procedures almost doubled compared to those carried out in 2013, thus demonstrating the commitment of Corvo farmers in the improvement of cattle breeds," stressed Fernando Sousa, who spoke on the sidelines of a visit to the wastelands of Corvo Island.
 
The implementation of the genetic enhancement programme for beef cattle in Corvo farms fulfils a commitment made by the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and the Environment with the local Farmers' Association.
 
"This measure will cover 63 farms. Currently, the Aberdeen-Angus breeding animal is being selected, which will then join the other animals," said the Regional Director.
