The Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Forestry will organise a training course on "Sensory analysis of Wines."
This initiative, which will take place at the premises of the Regional Oenology Laboratory, is coordinated by the Regional Directorate for Agricultural Development. The training course will be supervised by an internationally qualified expert on sensory analysis of wines from the Douro and Port Wines Institute.
The training course aims to provide participants with theoretical and practical knowledge that enables them to master the latest techniques of Sensory Analysis of Wines as well as to become acquainted with the equipments and selected environment for rigorous and controlled tests using the most advanced techniques at a European level. Some of these equipments and techniques have already been implemented in the Azores, particularly on the island of Pico.
Furthermore, this training course is also intended to interact with the wine production potential on that island as well as with the prominent vineyard culture that has been a reality on Pico since the early days of settlement. It also serves as an extension of the traditional "Pico Cellar" for a selected environment as well as for a technical and scientific "Tasting Room" with the necessary conditions and requirements, using the most advanced techniques in the field.
Being also an important contribution to increase their knowledge in wine production in the Region, this initiative will provide more training opportunities in this area and consolidate the development and modernisation in the regional wine sector.
This training course starts today, April 23, at 7 PM and will be attended by 12 trainees, most of whom are wine producers from Pico Island.
