New support scheme for support animal protection associations in the Azores to enter into force Wednesday
The new financial reimbursement scheme for animal protection associations in the Azores enter into force Wednesday, March 14, and has an overall allocation of 100 thousand Euros to support the expenses incurred with the animals under their care.
According to an ordinance now published in the Official Journal, the amount cannot exceed 10 thousand Euros per animal protection association. It will support costs with vaccination, sterilisation, deworming, electronic identification, food and veterinary care.
The Legislative Assembly unanimously approved a draft resolution submitted by PS and BE on the welfare of companion animals and wanderers in December, whose proposals were included in this ordinance.
This process was followed by the hearing of regional animal protection associations on the proposed ordinance; the definitive version has now been published.
The ordinance provides for the creation of a regional database containing all the information related to animal, the interventions to which it was submitted and the supporting documentation deemed necessary and useful.
All entities accredited by the Regional Directorate for Agriculture will have access to this database, namely official collection centres, animal protection associations, veterinary centres and public security forces in the archipelago.
