The Regional Directorate for Forest Resources (DRRF) is the operating service of the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Forestry. It is responsible for supporting the Regional Secretary in the definition in the definition of policies in the areas of planning development and use of forest, hunting and inland fishing resources of the Autonomous Region of the Azores.
The DRRF encompasses the following services: Directorate of Forest Services (DSF), which includes the Multiple Use Management Division (DGU), the Planning and Information Systems Division (DOSI) and the Forestry Sector Support Division (DASF); the Administrative, Financial and Planning Division (DAFP), which includes the Administrative Support Section (SAA).
It also has operating services (Forest Services) on all islands of the archipelago.
The mission of DRRF is to ensure a rational use of the Region’s forest and natural resources by coordinating, supervising and providing technical guidance to forest exploitation, while conducting studies aimed at the genetic enhancement of existing forest species and the use of new species to diversify the Azorean forests.
Additionally, the DRRF also has as its mission the maintenance and improvement of the rural and forest road networks, thus facilitating the input of production factors and the output of farm products.
The DRRF is also responsible for the management of game and inland fishing resources, implementing measures towards the rational use of these resources and ensure the preservation of these species.
