Regional Government invests 6.5 million Euros in rural and forest roads this year
The Regional Director for Forest Resources stated that 6.5 million Euros will be invested this year in the construction and redevelopment of more than 41 kilometres of rural and forest roads on various islands of the Azores, which will improve the accessibility, competitiveness and income of farmers.
"During 2019, the Government will complete several interventions that began last year and start the works in agricultural infrastructures considered as priority investment," said Anabela Isidoro. She spoke at the signing of the contract work for the works on the Rural Road in Remédios da Bretanha, municipality of Ponta Delgada.
Anabela Isidoro considered that these investments have a "multiplying effect" as far as they enhance road safety, improve access to farms, increase competitiveness and boost income.
The Regional Directorate for Forest Resources is responsible for the management of a network of 1,417 kilometres of roads, half of which are paved.
The investments made over the last five years have benefited about 12,700 farms.
"More than 85% of the total network of roads under the management of the Regional Directorate for Forest Resources has been subject to interventions last year, including the maintenance, conservation, cleaning and improvement of pavements," stressed Anabela Isidoro. According to her "there is permanent attention and care to the rural and forest road network of the Azores."
Regarding the Rural Road of Remédios da Bretanha, stretching over an extension of two kilometres, the Regional Director stressed that the work represents an investment of about 513 thousand Euros.
The intervention to be carried out by the company Albano Vieira includes the paving and the implementation of a drainage system.
