In the context of the celebration programme of the International year of Forests, the Government of the Azores started this week in the archipelago the “Tree Parade” with the distribution of moulds that will be decorated from students from regional schools.
There are two different moulds: a cone-shaped mould symbolising resinous species and a round-shaped one representing hardwood species.
After being decorated, all trees will be displayed on the webpage of the Regional Directorate for Forest Resources for electronic voting.
Voting will be open to the public in general from June 20 to September 20, 2011, to select three winning trees per island.
On September 21, three winning trees on each island will be made public, which will be then put up for auction on the aforementioned webpage.
The regional Social Solidarity Institutions to benefit from this fundraising will be also selected by electronic voting on the webpage of the Regional Directorate for Forest Resources.
The “Tree Parade” will be organised with a total of 100 trees, distributed by the Regional Directorate for Forest Resources to Basic Education and Secondary Schools across the archipelago, which will decorate them.
