Azorean Government continues to invest in improvement of farmers' working conditions
The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Forestry signed today the contract work for the repaving of Barro Vermelho Rural Road on Terceira Island, estimated investment of around 300 thousand Euros that will contribute to improving the working conditions of farmers.
This intervention will be carried out by the Regional Directorate for Forest Resources in the village of Ribeirinha, municipality of Angra do Heroísmo, covering an extension of 2,540 metres. The contract work was awarded to the company Tecnovia Açores, Sociedade de Empreitadas, SA.
The Barro Vermelho Rural Road is an infrastructure of utmost importance for agricultural and forestry activity. It serves almost sixty farmers in an area of about 93.6 hectares of private pastures and gives access to about 18 hectares of forest area located within Terceira Forest Perimeter.
With this investment, along with others under way throughout the Region, the Azorean Government pursues the strategy of providing the sector with better agricultural infrastructures.
Investments in agricultural infrastructures are crucial for reducing farm production costs as well as for improving their competitiveness.
This year, the Region will invest 8.5 million Euros in agricultural, rural and forest roads, which are essential for agriculture to continue overcoming challenges and ensure the sustainability of one of the Region's main economic activities.
