Meat and milk are some of the Azorean products to be featured at the 54th National Agriculture Fair, which runs from Saturday in Santarém. It is expected to receive about 200 thousand visitors.
This event, which is the oldest and largest of its kind in the country, also includes the 64th Ribatejo Fair. Azorean products will be on display at a 143-square metre stand, an organisation of União Agrícola Cooperative of São Miguel Agricultural Association.
The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Forests, João Ponte, will attend the opening of the National Agricultural Fair and, then, visit the Azores stand to establish close contact with the producers who will present there what is best produced in the archipelagos, namely meat, milk and honey, among many other products.
This event has about 700 exhibition stands dedicated to agriculture, livestock, associations, handicrafts, food, among others.
This year, the National Agriculture Fair will be dedicated to the theme "Cereals of Portugal." The event is an opportunity for the launch and dissemination of new products, the promotion of new services and the sharing of knowledge.
The programme of the fair, which runs until June 18, includes seminars that will address the main agricultural issues as well as parades, competitions of "campinos," equestrian activities, folklore dances and traditional music. Moreover, there will also be an exhibition on agricultural and livestock machinery.
