The Regional Secretary for Natural Resources said in Ribeira Grande that the Azores Agricultural Fair is an "event of major importance for the development of agriculture in the Region," stressing that this annual event "enhances the potential of farmers, producers as well as of agroindustry in the archipelago."
Speaking at a press conference for the presentation of this year's Azores Agricultural Fair, which takes place at the São Miguel Exhibition Park between June 20 and 22, Luís Neto de Viveiros stressed that the event "has contributed to the external dissemination of the genetic potential of dairy farms on São Miguel."
The Regional Secretary for Natural Resources also stressed that the Azores Agricultural Fair "brings together and enhances the contributions of several public and private institutions." This year's edition will feature the Holstein Frisian Breed contest, an event organised by São Miguel Agricultural Association.
During the press conference, Luís Neto Viveiros stressed that the Azorean agricultural sector "has contributed to common development," adding that it currently stands as "an active partners for the practice of sustainable agriculture."
According to the Regional Secretary, the organisation of the Azores Agricultural Fair also allows to "boost business and support the economic consolidation of companies participating in the event." In this context, the government official stressed the importance of "disseminating and promoting a series of basic economic activities" of the regional economy.
Luís Neto Viveiros also mentioned that the São Miguel Exhibition Park, recently opened, "not only recognises the importance of Azorean agriculture and animal husbandry, but also of all economic, cultural and recreational activities that wish to promote the best we do in the Region."
As for the presence of the Azores at the Santarem Agricultural Fair, which is taking place this week, the Regional Secretary for Natural Resources that this year's edition was not included in the Government's programming. Nevertheless, the government official highlighted the participation of São Miguel Agricultural Association at the fair.
Questioned by journalists, Luís Neto Viveiros did not exclude the possibility that the Azores may participate in future editions of this fair.
