The Council of Europe has considered the "Furnas LandLab" project (Furnas Landscape Laboratory - Project for Ecological and Landscape Recovery of Furnas Hydrographic Bay) as a case study as well as an example of good practices for similar projects to be implemented in Europe. This initiative was implemented by the Government of the Azores.
This follows the distinction awarded to the "LandLab Furnas", which represented Portugal in its first participation in the Landscape Award of the Council of Europe. The event took place during the 14th European Landscape Convention in Wroclaw, Poland.
The Landscape Award of the Council of Europe aims to distinguish the implementation of policies or measures for landscape protection, management and planning that prove to be effective in terms of ecological, economic, social, cultural and landscape sustainability.
These winning projects from the 18 countries that participated in the last edition along with the winning projects in the first two editions of Landscape Award will be part of a toolbox for future landscape management policies to be implemented at a European level.
