The Waste Processing Centre on the island of Flores, a work with an estimated budget of about five million Euros, should enter into operation with a few months.
The information was provided today by the Regional Secretary for the Environment and the Sea during a visit to the waste processing centre built in the old quarry of Lajes port.
According to Álamo Meneses, the construction work has been completed and the conduction of tests is expected to take place after finalising the assembly of electrical equipment.
The government official also informed that the call for tenders for choosing the centre's managing company is at an advanced stage. The centre is expected to enter to full operation within a few months.
This centre will process waste from the islands of Flores and Corvo, where local municipalities have started to adopt separate waste collection.
In the case of Corvo, as the Secretary of the Environment and the Sea mentioned, the works had a slight delay due to contractor's difficulties, but have already resumed and will be completed within two months.
