In an unprecedented initiative, in which more than three dozen operations are scheduled across the archipelago, the Government of the Azores, through the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and the Sea, promotes the first Waste Week in the Azores form November 22 to 26.
With a series of initiatives organised on all islands in partnerships with several organisations, this initiative aims to involve the society as well as the school community to raise their awareness for waste issues, the urgent for its reduction and correct management.
After its beginning, marked the meeting of the Monitoring Committee of the Waste Management Plan for the Regional Autonomous Administration Services (Plager.GOV) on November 18 and the technical visit undertaken to the waste sorting centre in Horta, several action will take place on all islands, starting on Monday, including information sessions on Plager.GOV; distribution of promotion and information materials; organisation of visits to operators and waste processing and management centres; exhibition of films/documentaries on the subject; organisation of educational activities addressed at schools; awareness raising sessions on waste management, organisation of institutional meetings; distribution of battery recycling containers and awareness raising sessions on these issues through local media.
The public presentation of the proposal for a waste website, which is intended to be a reference portal in the Azores, is one of the highlights of this initiative. This present will be held at the Faial Botanical Garden on November 23 from 9 AM to 12:30 PM.
