Government "welcomes" all measures to shorten unemployment periods among youngsters
The Government of the Azores welcomed and stressed the importance of all measures to shorten the periods of unemployment among youngsters.
This position was defended by the Regional Secretary for the Environment and the Sea at the Legislative Assembly during during the discussion of a draft Resolution on "measures to optimise the response time of public services to unemployed youngsters" in the archipelago.
Moreover, Álamo Meneses defended that the initiative presented by PS Parliamentary Group "is simple" and "has the potential to produce immediate results."
Among other measures, the draft resolution proposes that Regional Public Employment Services "respond to unemployed youngsters under 35, who enrolled at Employment Centres within an average of 50 days" instead of the current 100-day average.
For Álamo Meneses, the Regional Government "is very attentive" to the issue of youth unemployment, since its "impact and importance" are far greater than other unemployment situations.
The government official also recalled that youth unemployment "has multiple branches" and "is capable of having an extremely negative impact on youngsters' lives, both professionally and personally.
As he defended, youth unemployment, especially when prolonged, "has a profound impact not only on the future employability and career prospects of these youngsters, but also on their life, their emancipation and their capacity to create meaningful and socially useful life projects."
