The Government of the Azores will attend the World Ocean Summit 2014 to take place in San Francisco, USA, from February 24-26. This year's edition will be held under the theme "Ocean Sustainability and Governance".
The Regional Secretary for Natural Resources, Luís Neto Viveiros, and the Regional Directorate for Sea Affairs, Filipe Porteiro, will participate in debates on governance of waters under national and international jurisdiction as well as on the sustainable management of traditional and future economic activities.
Whereas the Region has promoted the sea economy in the context of efficient and sustainable management, the Government of the Azores considers that the participation in this meeting at the highest level - promoted by The Economist and National Geographic magazines - will be an opportunity to enhance the international visibility of the Region's view on oceans matters, establish partnerships and contacts.
The World Oceans Summit brings together world government leaders as well as several personalities from the fields of politics, economy, science and environment.
