Government of the Azores authorises anticipation of hunting day due to municipal elections
The Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Forestry, through the Regional Directorate for Forest Resources, informs that it has authorised hunting activities exceptionally on September 30, taking into consideration that the municipal elections are held on October 1.
According to the legislation in force, hunting activities and the transport of hunting weapons are not allowed on election days.
Taking into account that the municipal elections will be held nationwide on October 1, the ban on hunting would imply on some islands the reduction of hunting days as stipulated in the respective hunting calendars.
Therefore, the Regional Government has decided to authorise the replacement of Sunday (October 1) by Saturday (September 30). It will neither imply any increase in the hunting effort stipulated in the hunting calendars nor will call into question the principles of sustainable management of hunting resources and hunting activity in the archipelago.
The Regional Government's decision authorises the hunting of the same species on September 30 and under the same terms as those defined for October 1, according to the provisions of the hunting calendar for the different islands.
