Government of the Azores grants additional support of 255 thousand Euros for maintenance of vineyards
The ordinance regulating the allocation of additional regional support, up to 255 thousand Euros, for producers who applied in 2017 for the Maintenance of Vineyards for the Production of Wines bearing the Designation of Origin (DO) and the Geographical Indication (GI) certifications under the POSEI programme was published today in the Official Journal.
The Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Forestry points out that, without this budget boost, there would be a considerable apportionment of this POSEI aid and a group of about 60 producers whose vineyards are certified with the Geographical Identification (GI) designation would not receive any amount, as the budget limit for 2017 was exceeded.
Therefore, this additional support is a further contribution of the Regional Government to continue stimulating the wine sector, which has had a major economic impact in the Azores and, in particular, on Pico.
This sector has generated wealth, created jobs and recovered uncultivated land.
Due the great dynamics of the wine sector, it will be possible to have larger production areas in the future as well as increased production and better income for producers.
