In the context of the stipulated measures for the support to milk producers, the Government of the Azores will anticipate the payment of 70% of the premium for dairy cows, which will be increased by 45 Euros per animal on the islands of São Miguel and Terceira; both islands represent 87.2% of dairy production in the archipelago. This measure involves an extra financial effort of nearly 3.3 million Euros.

The resolution of the Council of the Government approving the increase of the premium for dairy cows on the islands of São Miguel and Terceira was published today in the Official Journal and allows immediate entry of nearly 8.5 million Euros into the regional dairy industry. This decision is intended to level out the differences in the amount of support allocated to these islands, which is now set at 190 Euros.

This Resolution also contains a series of measures stipulated by the Regional Government that represent a financial effort of nearly five million Euros, adding up to the seven million-Euro reinforcement in the public investment provided in the draft proposal of the 2016 Plan.

The Government of the Azores has also decided to maintain the amount of premium at 190 Euros for the entire Region next year.
