Government of the Azores moves forward with remodelling of Pico Carneiro forest road on Terceira Island
The Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Forestry, through the Regional Directorate for Forest Resources, will move forward this year with the remodelling works of Pico Carneiro forest road on Terceira Island, an investment over 100 thousand euros.
The public tender to award the contract work for the resurfacing of a section of Forest Road CF 11 - Pico Carneiro located in Serreta, municipality of Angra do Heroísmo, was published today in the Official Journal.
This road section, with an extension of 1,570 metres, covers 152 hectares of forest, of which 138 hectares are under public domain and 14 hectares are owned by private entities. It also covers 33 hectares of pastureland and a total of 10 hectares.
With this intervention, the Government will ensure better working conditions for farmers and a reduction of operating costs, always bearing in mind the primary goal of boosting the income of farms located in this area.
The project, which will be eligible for Community funds, has an estimated completion period of 45 days.
This forest road is very important for agricultural and tourism activities in the village of Serreta insofar as it connects the regional road, next to Serreta Forest Park, to several forest paths and roads, thus ensuring access to hiking trails, forest areas and pastures.
