The 1st Atlantic Forum will be held in the city of Horta at Amor da Pátria Society on September 21 under the theme "Coastal and deep sea natural resources."
This is the first of a series of 5 forums to take place between 2012 and 2013 in the context of the Atlantic Strategy.
The European Commission launched a marine strategy for the Atlantic Ocean, suggesting a variety of areas in which the EU could support coastal and maritime economies of the Atlantic region. In this context, the EU Commission organised, together with the Member States of the Atlantic, this cycle of events with the purpose of discussing, sharing, collaborating and developing a strategy for the Atlantic basin. The first event will held be in the Azores, specifically in the City of the Sea. It was organised by the Regional Government of the Azores, the Directorate-General for Maritime Policy and the European Commission. For further information on the event and the programme, go to: http://ed.europa.eu/maritimeaffairs/policy/sea_basins/atlanti. Participants should register at: https://webgate.ec.europa.eu/fmi/scic/AFPT12/start.php.
Furthermore, an underwater photography exhibition by wild life photographer Nuno Sá will be opened in the context of this forum. The exhibition will be open to the public from September 20 until the end of the month. This is an excellent opportunity for one to know the natural riches of the Azores Sea through the lens of one of the most celebrated photographers in the world in the field of marine wildlife. Visiting hours will be from 8 AM - 12 PM, 1 PM - 4 PM and 6 PM - 12 AM
