International Bureau of the Assembly of European Wine-producing Regions to meet for the first time in the Azores
The International Bureau of the Assembly of European Wine-producing Regions (AEWR) will meet for the first time in the Azores. The event begins Friday on the islands of Faial and Pico.
The opening session, which will attended by the Regional Secretary for Agriculture and the Environment, Luís Neto Viveiros, will take place at 9:30 AM at the Sociedade Amor da Pátria in Horta, where the representatives of the wine-producing regions that make up the Bureau of AEWR will meet throughout the day.
On Saturday, the Chairman of AEWR, Jean-Paul Bachy, will present the conclusions of this meeting at a press conference that will be held at the Wine Museum in Madalena at 10 AM.
On the same day, participants will visit the wine regions of Candelária and Criação Velha, the "Curral Atlantis" vineyards, the Wine Cellar Cooperative and the Landscape of the Pico Island Vineyard Culture Interpretation Centre.
The Autonomous Region of the Azores is a full member of AEWR, which was created in 1994 in Marsala, Sicily. This body takes action with all institutions and entities that are directly and indirectly responsible for the development of European and global policies for the wine sector, namely: the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Council of Europe, the Committee of the Regions, the Assembly of European Regions, the World Trade Organisation and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
The Common Organisation of the Market in Wine (CMO), wine-growing in difficult areas, the protection of European geographical designations, the standardisation of labelling, ecological wine-growing, wine tourism, European wine itinerary are some of the topics that have been debated and analysed by the AEWR.
