João Ponte highlights Kairós' contribution to the development of organic farming on the island of São Miguel
The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Forestry highlighted in Ponta Delgada the contribution provided by Kairós - Cooperative for the Incubation of Solidary Economy Initiatives on the island of São Miguel in terms of development, promotion and training in the area of organic farming.
“For the Regional Government, the development of organic farming is strategic and, in this context, the role played by associations and cooperatives in its implementation is fundamental,” João Ponte said, considering that Kairós has been an active partner in the dissemination and promotion of organic farming.
The government official spoke Thursday at the end of a meeting with the board of this cooperative, which presented a series of projects. They include the production of ready-to-consume agricultural products and the creation of an organic farming skill centre.
“The Regional Government pays close attention to all the proposals and contributions of the sector's partners. In this regard, the creation of a centre dedicated to organic farming training and production is a very interesting project, to which the Regional Government will join," stressed João Ponte.
The Regional Secretary also stressed that the Strategic for Organic Farming is already under implementation, confirming the Regional Government's commitment to an even more sustainable agriculture that generates more value. It is also in line with the goals defended by the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) for the 2021 - 2027 period.
